What are Building Performance Standards?
Building Performance Standards originated from the desire of cities, counties, and states to address pressing issues including climate-related risks, rising energy costs, and skyrocketing energy demand growth.
These standards are the evolution of benchmarking ordinances that have been implemented over the last decade. While they are varied in specific requirements most include one or more of the following mechanics:
- Benchmarking
- Building Audit
- Energy, Water, and/or GHG Emissions Reduction
- Retro-commissioning (RCx)
- 100% Renewable Electricity Standard
- Strategic Decarbonization Assessment
- Energy Management Plan
- Operations and Maintenance Plan
- City Submittals
- Data Verification
